Janzu - The Magic of Flow

There is a world beneath the surface of the water, where time dissolves, the body becomes light, and the soul remembers. Where existence floats, weightless — like the Lightness of Being. Janzu is the art of water embracing the soul.

What is Janzu

Janzu is a water healing practice. A moving meditation, a weightless experience where the body gently floats, and the therapist guides it with rhythmic, wave-like movements. Within the water, the body releases memories and tensions — energy flows and the soul finds peace.

Janzu’s origins draw inspiration from ancient Eastern wisdom — China, Japan — where water was the gateway connecting body and spirit. Yet its modern form was created by Juan Villatoro: a healer and teacher who, through his time in Pune, India, and his return to Tepoztlán, Mexico, developed a system of deep connection with water — a kind of dance of the soul, where healing doesn’t happen by force, but emerges naturally.

It requires no effort. It needs no control. Water becomes a whisper, a dance, a refuge. It is a journey that:

  •   renews the nervous system,
  •   releases the body from deep tensions and traumas,
  •   and opens the door to our spiritual nature.

My Journey with Janzu

In the small village of Sayulita on Mexico’s West Coast — a wild place where light dances and the earth whispers stories — I immersed myself in the water with Janzu for the first time, not knowing what to expect. Within minutes, something deep awakened. The water spoke to my soul, sending a clear message: “This is your path.”

Then, I travelled to Tepoztlán, to the Escuela de Artes Acuáticas. There, alongside Maria Ornelas Berho — who had received blessing and knowledge directly from Juan Villatoro — I trained in Janzu Level 1.

After a year of practice, I returned for Level 2 and stayed for three months, living deeply within the practice and the place. The experience was holistic: The culture of Tepoztlán, full of warmth, with its vivid colours, the scent of cocoa and chilli in the air, the mornings with light dancing through the clouds, the people, the ceremonies, and the healing culture — all became part of the healing itself. There, Janzu met the earth. And through that meeting, it took root within me.

Limitations and Precautions

Water is wise and asks for respect. Janzu is not just a water experience — it is a sacred meeting that requires presence, an open heart, and a safe environment. The practice is done exclusively in calm, warm water (around 33°C), in heated pools or natural thermal springs. It is not suitable for cold or open water, where the body cannot fully relax and healing reach its depth.

Not recommended if:

  •   There are open wounds or recent injuries.
  •   The mind is clouded by substances or alcohol.
  •   There are medical devices restricting movement in water.
  •   The stomach is full or the body feels heavy.
  •   There is intense fear of water or dizziness.
  •   You are pregnant or have serious medical conditions — in which case, consult your doctor first.

Janzu does not push. It does not demand. It is an invitation to surrender. And when you are ready, the water will hold you.

For those interested in creating a dedicated pool for Janzu—whether in a private space, wellness center, or retreat setting — I offer professional consultation and guidance throughout the design and planning process.

My support includes providing essential specifications and considerations to ensure the pool meets the technical and energetic requirements for safe, effective, and authentic Janzu sessions. Each project is approached with respect to the unique characteristics of the location, with the aim of creating a harmonious and functional space.

Whenever possible, we explore sustainable and eco-conscious solutions, including modern heating systems and renewable energy sources, to maintain the ideal water temperature in an environmentally friendly way.

For further information or to discuss a potential project, please feel free to contact me directly via email.

FAQ's

Janzu

A Janzu session typically lasts between 45 minutes and 1 hour. This timeframe allows you to fully relax and benefit from the warm water experience (around 33°C).

Absolutely. One of the unique benefits of Janzu is that it gently supports you in overcoming fear of water. Many people start with a single session focused specifically on releasing this fear. The process is slow, respectful, and guided, allowing you to reconnect with water safely and comfortably. After overcoming this initial barrier, you can continue with further sessions for deeper healing.

Janzu is usually offered as a standalone therapy. However, it fits very well within retreats where it can be combined with workshops and other activities. This creates a rich, holistic healing experience in a setting with the right warm pools. Janzu’s energy can complement other healing practices, but it is not mixed with other individual therapies during the same session.

You can book sessions during retreats or as individual appointments. For the most current locations and dates, please follow my social media channels and contact me via email. I do not use phone calls or messaging apps for bookings—please email me directly for availability and scheduling.
